Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect from the first session?
We can begin with a brief phone call to explore whether we’d like to work together. From there, we’ll arrange an initial session and I will send you a copy of my therapy contract to read over before we meet.
The first session will include an assessment, which helps you get a feel for how I work, and gives me the opportunity to understand more about what’s currently impacting you, what might be contributing to it, and some of your personal history.
The first session tends to be a little more structured, but by the end we’ll usually have a sense of your therapeutic goals and a shared understanding of how we might work together. If you’d like to continue, we’ll find a regular time that suits us both.
This process applies to therapy, EMDR, supervision, and any of the mental health interventions I offer.
What if I need to cancel a session?
Sometimes things come up and sessions may need to be cancelled or rescheduled. I ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice where possible. This allows me the opportunity to offer the appointment to someone else.
If a session is cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, I do ask for the full fee to be paid. That said, I’ll always consider the reason for the cancellation, and we can talk about it together if needed.
Will our sessions be confidential?
Yes, the contents of our sessions will remain strictly confidential.
There are some rare exceptions where I may need to break confidentiality. This would only happen if I were concerned that you or someone else is at serious risk of harm. In such cases, I may need to share relevant information with appropriate services or authorities. Wherever possible, I would always aim to speak with you about this first.
What information do you need from me?
All clients and supervisees are asked to complete an information form before we begin working together. This includes details such as your name, address, GP practice, and emergency contact.
This information is important for safety and ethical practice, and it’s securely stored in line with data protection regulations. You’ll always be in control of what you choose to share during our sessions. I’ll ask questions, but there’s no pressure or expectation. You set the pace, and we’ll work in a way that feels safe and manageable for you.
How much do sessions cost?
Fees vary depending on the type of session and whether it’s in person or online. I also offer a sliding scale to ensure affordability, particularly for those on low incomes, students, or those with no income.
Talking Therapy & EMDR : £45–£80 per 50-minute session (depending on affordability, location and type of therapy)
Supervision: £60 for trainees, £80 for qualified therapists per 90-minute session
I’m committed to making therapy more inclusive and accessible, and I’ll do my best to support people from a wide range of backgrounds.
